Battle Gear

Battle Gear

Well I don’t know why it was that I thought little boys don’t play dress up – I guess Gareth never got into the idea of trying on costumes and pretending to be all sorts of things, but Owen and Reece have imaginations you wouldn’t believe. So, our smaller “adventure kit” toy container (that had compasses, cameras, binoculars, hats, ect.), has grown into a much bigger, and more full, dress up tub filled with not only gear, but also capes/masks/gloves and probably lots of other things i don’t even know (and don’t even want to know!) are in there.

So lately, the big thing has been that the boys will get all decked out in capes/masks/hats and all sorts of other little costume pieces. And then have extravagant light saber battles. It always cracks me up to walk in to the room and see little a little boys with a Darth Vader mask and a batman cloak, and a knight in shining armor vest with a big light saber in his hands!

Here are a few pictures I snapped of them all decked out, I thought you’d enjoy :)

Isn’t that too much fun?! I love the fun these guys create during the day – I’m so glad that they have each other to battle/play with all day long :). When ever I see them playing so nicely together it warms my heart and reminds me exactly WHY we wanted to do this four times! It is so rewarding to know that I gave them the greatest gift I think I have to give, a constant playmate, an ally (or rival depending on the day!), and a life long friend :)

Oh and I’ll leave you with this picture – hehehe, for when the little scuba-battler gets tired, there is nothing like a special blanket to help him relax…

Easter Letter

Easter Letter

Well we had a wonderful Easter weekend around here – We are still not making it out the door with all four boys (not to mention 2 tired parents) – but we did have my family over for the afternoon, and a nice relaxing day together.

It was fun to see the boys get all excited about Easter this year, and funny to watch little Reece try to figure it all out. He was anticipating all the candy in a BIG way, and by Friday he was so anxious about it all that he broke down into tears multiple times about worrying that he’d miss out on Easter for some reason, or sleep through it (Mom and Dad, can I sleep with you so that I make sure to wake up). Then he was completely distraught when he figured out he wouldn’t get the chance to MEET the easter bunny, so big brother Gareth jumped to the rescue and composed a letter that they could leave for the bunny since they didn’t get to meet him in person…

In the end the Easter bunny found the jumping bunny toys and also 3 small chocolate bunnies for each of the big brothers, but there was no way he would have tortured poor mommy by leaving a chocolate bunny the size of a five year old for a little boy who already has the tendency to get quite hyper active when he eats even a little chocolate.

Turns out that everyone was perfectly happy with the moderate sized bunnies – and Reece was quite relieved to see that the bunny got his note, and that Easter day came and went with out a hitch :)

Tennyson’s Photoshoot

Last week I was so lucky to get more pictures done by my friend Dani – I just LOVED the maternity ones she did for us, so i was just thrilled when she offered to do newborn ones with Tennyson.

It was so funny because usually Tennyson is in the habit of sleeping the day away, but we got to Dani’s house and he was WIDE awake pretty much the whole time, not only that, but he wanted to show off all his tricks. So poor dani had to take pictures of him while he was turning his head, waving his arms and kicking as much as possible! I don’t know how she did it, but she managed to get some gorgeous pictures – and it is is fun to have some really great awake ones, you can really see some of his personality showing through!
Here are a few of my very favorites from the day:

At the end, we worked extra hard to get him to finally doze off, so we could get some of the classic newborn sleepy pictures too:

Dani also made us this beautiful announcement too using her adorable kit The Land of Nod:

There are so many other beautiful ones too! You can see a little slide show of them all HERE.

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH DANI!!!

Chore Time

Chore Time

Short and Sweet today, but I have to say, I’m loving chore time around here… I know what you are thinking, but NO it is not so much because I love to work my kids like slaves! Really though it is wonderful to see my kids helping out around the house… and there is a sense of pride and ownership that they start to show for the house and I think it gives them a sense of belonging and purpose to know that they have jobs and ways to contribute.

Here is Owen sorting dirty laundry – This chore really helps me a TON, I hate the whole gathering up laundry and sorting it by color steps, and the boys can do a great job of it. It makes doing the laundry not seem QUITE as daunting – too bad i still have to wash/dry/fold/put it away afterwards. :)

Here is Gareth bringing the laundry out to the garage. Usually only an Owen job, but laundry had piled up quite a bit this day! Gareth also will empty the dishwasher for me and take out the trash when I need it. HUGE helps, and everytime I am blown away with how big this kid is, he is really a capable guy.

Reece here vacuuming for me – this chore is really a hot commodity and we trade off who gets to do it because everyone loves to use the carpet sweeper :). With Reece right now, it is still about trying to keep him occupied so that he feels useful, learns to do chores and most of all stays out of the brother’s hair while they do their own chores. I’m sure it will get better with time and in the mean time I’m trying to teach my strong willed little one some good habits.

Needless to say – it isn’t all a bowl of cherries, and often when I’m harping on them just clean up their toys already, it seems a bit counter productive in that I’m putting MORE work into getting them to work than I would be just cleaning up the crap on my own. BUT I really think that as we get into the swing of things, and the more consistent I am about asking them to help out, the more actual help they are. It is totally worth it when we have a day like this and my todo list is actually shrinking because my little men are helping out.I love these guys!
