I’ve been wanting a tattoo for a really long time. I would say at least 10 years, but a tattoo is such a permanent and personal thing I think, that I was sort of holding out until I had a real reason and a clear idea for what I wanted it to be.
Well, with this past year being everything it has been, I sort of found my reason, I’ve been planning to get the word “live” tattooed on my inner wrist for a few months now. It’s just so heavily symbolic to me, and I think it is meaningful that I will permanently have this marking my wrist. Not only a monument to what I’ve been through, but also a reminder for if I find myself in that place again. This is a place I will see it, this will keep reminding me.
I turned 30 last week, and so for my birthday G got me my tattoo!
So here are all the answers I’ve had to give about it over and over all in one place: I got it at a place here in Vancouver called Altered Reality and they were wonderful (aritst Dustin). Yes, it did hurt (thats part of the whole tattoo package though! I would have been disappointed if it hadn’t). And yes I’m glad I got it, really really I love it, and I get a kick out of it everytime I see it on my actual body.
It’s totally meaningful to me to have done this with my thirtieth birthday, it feels like a good solid step forward, turning the page on to a new chapter of my life.
Yay! So there you have it! I just couldn’t go another day with out posting about my lovely tattoo!

Good for you Shawna! I got one when I was 18 and wish I had done something so much more meaningful knowing how permanent they are! Or at least waited and thought about it like you did! It looks great! I bet it hurt like heck in that spot!

Congrats on joining the ranks of the inked. But like Pam, mine is far less personal. Good for you, tying it into what you feel when you reflect on your past year, and how very cool to have turned 30 along with it!
